As a person living with Ulcerative Colitis, I am constantly looking for ways to improve my overall health. One of those ways, is by getting more vegetables into my diet. Over the last year after my second pregnancy, I’ve had many trials while enduring a flare of my disease. There’s so much conflicting information out there about veggies and whether or not they are safe for my very delicate system. To eat them, or not to eat them? THAT is the question!

After viewing Joe Cross’ movie, “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead,” I wondered if adding a juicing regimen to my diet could possibly help me consume more raw veggies…without all the fiber. So I started on a journey! I began juicing every single day. I loved the taste of fresh juice made at home, but after a week or two of cutting, slicing, washing, juicing and washing again, I was growing a bit tired from all the work.  Needless to say, juicing at home was extremely time-consuming and as a busy mom to three kids under eight, I didn’t have the time to make fresh juice every day.

Luckily, our friends at Suja Juice helped alleviate the stress of juicing at home by sending us some tummy-friendly flavors to try, hence the reason for this post! If you haven’t heard of Suja, well get ready to be im”pressed!” Suja Juice is always cold pressed, organic, and comes in several unique flavors. There is no guesswork here. The juice blends are just right, and each one is packed with nutrient-dense, organic goodness in it’s simplest form for maximum nutrient absorption.

Because of my specific needs, we went with three flavors that we felt would be easy on my digestive system. The first was Sweet Beets , which obviously contains beets but also adds apple, carrot, orange, banana, pineapple and turmeric. Read more about the benefits of Tumeric in a previous post. I love this flavor. Beets can taste very earthy, so the addition of the sweeter fruits makes for a perfect blend with just the right amount of sweetness. Add in turmeric, which has been proven to be anti-inflammatory, and this juice goes down easy, even in my system. Do be mindful when drinking beet juice that when you use the restroom there may be a red tint. That’s totally normal, but could be alarming if you aren’t expecting it.

Next we tried Suja’s 24 Karat . This one’s my favorite! It contains carrot, apple, orange, pineapple, peach and banana and is perfect for breakfast. What I love most about this juice (even more than the taste) is that it contains your recommended daily dose of vitamins A and C. Vitamin C is so important for me, because sadly the medications I’m on temporarily suppress my immune system. I always feel well protected when I’m getting my veggies and vitamin C all in one delicious shot!

Lastly we tried the Raspberry Probiotic Water . This was a completely new idea for me! We’ve all gotten used to getting our probiotics from pills, possibly yogurts, etc., but water?! The idea of getting more probiotics just by drinking this flavorful water was definitely appealing to me. With a hint of fresh crushed raspberry, this water is packed with over 2 billion vegan probiotic CFU’s. I love the fact that it’s vegan, because this means it’s dairy-free, and many probiotics are not. I like to stay away from dairy for more than one reason, but specifically in my case, I love knowing that I’m not adding anything into my system that could be inflammatory or promote mucous. Remember, ingesting different types of probiotics from multiple different sources will help build healthy bacteria levels in the gut, which comprises over 70% of our immune system! This water made it easy to get a tasty combination of hydration and probiotics.

Suja Juice not only helped me incorporate more veggies into my diet, but it also helped me get out the door a little faster. I still love to use my juicer at home, but nothing beats the ease of the grab and go from a brand you can trust! Having the bottles available and in my fridge meant no excuses! If I’m running behind, Suja is there to back me up. I hope to keep a stock of these in my fridge from now on to help supplement my diet, get my daily dose of veggies, and help my immune system stay strong in the face of my chronic illness.
